Just the right amount of heat with ground source heating and free cooling
With a ground source heat pump and supplementary free cooling, Joakim Wahlqvist and Annelie Damberg's home always has just the right amount of heat.
"Since the heat pump was adjusted, we basically haven't needed to touch it. We get cooling when it's hot and heating when it's cold — it's as simple as that, says Joakim.
Joakim Wahlqvist and Annelie Damberg live in Bosgård outside Huskvarna. Their split level house is 145 square metres. To the south, they have a 60 square metre patio that is often bathed in sunlight. The house is located on a hill next to Lake Vättern and the view consists of rolling fields and an apple orchard.
It's peaceful, calm and quiet, they say.
The pair work for the same IT company and have a commute of less than 20 minutes to their office in Jönköping, but they often work from home.

Switched to ground source heating
The previous house owners had a mixed bag of energy sources: A small heat pump for the home, electric heating for the large garage space and also a wood boiler for chilly winter days.
Joakim Wahlqvist and Annelie Damberg opted for one energy source — a powerful heat pump from CTC. One of the benefits was that they didn't have to experient with different systems; another was the reduced costs.
Free cooling for a warm room
Their new ground source heat pump from CTC, a CTC GSi 12, also has complementary free cooling.
"On a sunny day, it can be almost 30 degrees in the living room, even in winter. It's better to have free cooling in the house than to leave the door open for ventilation," says Joakim.
"I also have a pollen allergy, so in the summer it's nice to not always have the doors open. The cooling unit fan is very quiet," says Annelie.
Reliable heating system
The water-based underfloor heating system makes it comfortably warm, and everything is controlled automatically.
"Since the heat pump was adjusted, we basically haven't needed to touch it. We get cooling when it's hot and heating when it's cold – it's as simple as that," says Joakim.
He finds it appealing that ground source heating utilises existing heat in the bedrock. Ground source, water source or geothermal heat pumps are renewable energy sources.
"It's a very efficient and good source of energy," he says.
"It compensates for my fancy set of wheels in the garage," adds Annelie Damberg about her car with a smile.
