Ground source heating keeps temperature and humidity stable
Do you have a large property and need to keep a close eye on humidity and temperature? Then you can follow the example of Lidingö Förrådscenter. The company has had a number of energy holes drilled and ground source heat pumps installed.
The HVAC company CreaNord in Lidingö is run by Lemmy Ålander and Alf Fjellström. Just a stone's throw from their office is the storage company Lidingö Förrådscenter. The company asked them to help with the design and installation of ground source heating.
Lidingö Förrådscenter rents out storage units by the square metre. Of course, the stored items are valuable and must be able to be kept safe for a long time. Before deciding on a heat source for the property, various options were examined. Most important were reliable heat and moisture safety, but also the price.
"Economy plays an important role in our choice"
"There must be absolutely no build-up of moisture." We always maintain a temperature of around 12–13 degrees with the help of water-based hot air fans around the building. But the heating rate is a large portion of our operating costs, so economy was also an important factor in our choice," says Magnus Hådell, owner of Lidingö Förrådscenter.
When he started Lidingö Förrådscenter, the heating source in the premises was from oil and electricity. The old equipment went out and three geothermal heat pumps were installed instead.
"Individuals and companies are renting a great deal more space. It's flexible and easy."
Alf Fjellström from the HVAC company CreaNord explains the process:
"Three boreholes, each with a depth of 200 metres, provide reliable access to ground source heating. We put in three 12 kW CTC EcoPart ground source heat pumps together with a standard 500-litre buffer tank. A CTC El 36 kW runs in the background and is controlled via a bivalent mixing valve. Since the need for hot water was so low, we installed a regular CTC Safir hot water heater.

Once operations had started up, Lidingö Förrådscenter was able to expand quickly. Self-storage is growing rapidly in Sweden.
"Individuals and companies are renting a great deal more space. It's flexible and simple," says Magnus Hådell.
CreaNord had to revise the dimensions, drill more holes and install new CTC units.
The storage centre now has 1500 square metres of storage space on three levels.
"Since we are so happy with our existing CTC system, there was no reason to switch," says Magnus Hådell.
The MyUplink app contains all the data on how the facility is performing. For example, the temperature inside the premises is displayed. If (against all odds) any issues occur, a push notification will be sent.
It is no problem for a large property owner to have several heat pumps, since CTC can handle up to ten units.
