Heat pumps reduced the company's operating costs

Heat pumps reduced the company's operating costs

Lower operating costs and more even heat on the premises. This was the effect when AHL Johanssons Åkeri installed four air-to-water heat pumps.
"It feels really good," says Timmy Palm, site manager.

The employees at the haulage company quickly noticed the positive effects:

"The heating at our premises is very even," says Timmy Palm.

"Before, it varied a lot. It was either super hot or super cold. But with four new air-to-water heat pumps, there has been a big difference. The same year the heat pumps were installed, there was a cold spell that really tested them. Consumption was good and everything worked perfectly."

Goal to reduce consumption

AHL Johanssons Åkeri has its head office in Fagerhult in Skåne County. The haulage company has been around since the 1960s and now has 70 employees. They transport all types of goods between southern and northern Sweden.

At Fagerhult, the haulage company has premises totalling 1500 square metres divided into a lorry garage, wash and tyre workshop. In addition, there is a workshop and 170 square metres of office space. The office section also has staff rooms with showers.

The office area was previously heated by direct electrical heating, while the other areas were heated by an old heat pump that was on its last legs.

"It was a good decision to get new heat pumps. The installation went smoothly and we were up and running quickly. The purchase of new heat pumps was part of a larger initiative to become more energy-conscious and reduce our consumption, explains Timmy Palm.

"Not a single alarm"

The haulage company looked into several different options to find the most cost-effective heating system. One suggestion was to procure a ground source heating system, but since it was a long way down to the bedrock, the choice finally came down to air-to-water heat pumps from CTC. They bought four of the EcoAir 622M models.

Johan Sagebrant from the HVAC company STV i Växjö AB installed the system:

"There's usually always something in the beginning, but I didn't have a single alarm during the first six months."
