Keep your air-to-water heat pump efficient this autumn

By putting in a few extra minutes of cleaning, you can save more energy and increase the life of your pump.

1. Check that are there no leaves, branches or other debris in the outdoor unit. Clean the grilles, both front and back, to make sure nothing is blocking the airway. Remember to turn off the pump before cleaning and do not use any sharp objects that could damage the pump.

2. If you have a newer product, there is a filter on the outgoing line to the heat pump. Check that the filter is not clogged with dirt. If cleaning is needed, you can follow the instructions in the manual.

3. Sub-zero temperatures, snow or ice? Be sure to keep the roof above the heat pump clear, for example, from icicles. If these fall down, they can damage the pump.

4. Last but not least — make sure to direct any water away from the house foundation to avoid moisture damage. This can also freeze into ice in the garden and create an icy pathway with a risk of slipping.

For more tips, see the manual that came with your pump.

Different types of air-to-water heat pumps

CTC has two types of air-to-water heat pump: One type is variable-speed and automatically adjusts the operating mode based on the actual heating needs of the house, while the other type has a start/stop function.
