How to spring clean your air-to-water heat pump
Once the spring sunshine has arrived and the temperature stays above zero, it's time to clean your air-to-water heat pump's outdoor unit for the summer season.
Here's what you need to do:
- Turn off the pump before you start cleaning it.
- Wipe off outer dirt like dust and pollen with a damp cloth. Take care around the back cover of the pump to avoid damaging the electronics. Do not use any sharp objects that could damage the pump.
- Check that are there no leaves, branches or other debris in the outdoor unit. If such debris is found, remove it carefully. This will ensure that the air has free passage.
- If you have a newer product, there is a filter on the outgoing pipe to the heat pump. Check to make sure the filter is not full of dirt. If it needs to be cleaned, you can find instructions in your manual.
Spring cleaning your heat pump doesn't need to be harder than that. And it pays off in the long run. Therefore, get into the habit of cleaning your heat pump once a year.
You can find more useful tips in the manual that came with your pump.
